Alarming Threat in Kano State as Bandits Occupy Villages

By Zulaiha Danjuma

As peace deals take hold in Katsina state and military operations intensify against armed groups in North West Nigeria, Kano state is facing a new security challenge: an influx of fleeing bandits taking shelter in border communities.

The situation has led to many families in border communities to seek refuge in Shanono and Faruruwa towns, abandoning their homes, farmlands, livestock, and livelihoods due to rising fear among villages.

This is coming after the Nigerian Military reported killing 19 bandits at Shanono local government area of Kano state on November 4.

The affected communities, which are now deserted due to incessant threats from bandits, include Tsamiya, Yan Kwana, Santar Abuja, Tudun Fulani, Malamai, Goron Dutse, and Kulki villages. According to reports, the bandits have been terrorizing residents and making them live in fear and uncertainty.

Troops of the Nigerian Military are taking base in Farin Ruwa and Shanono local government, where the Commander Sector 1, of the Joint Task Force, Operations FANSAN YAMMA; Major General Wase had visited them following the recent banditry in the areas.
