Alleged Misconduct: 15 Members Petition Kano Correspondents’ Chapel Leadership
Fifteen members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists(NUJ),Kano State Council, have petitioned the leadership of the chapel seeking explanation on alleged cases of misconduct taking in the chapel.
“This is writing on behalf of 15 members of the Correspondents Chapel that seek explanation on the misconducts taking place within the Chapel that have gone against the constitutional provisions, ” the Correspondents said.
In the petition which was signed by Abdulmuminu Murtala of the Leadership Newspapers, and addressed to the Secretary of the chapel,the aggrieved members said the alleged misconduct ran contrary to the provisions of the NUJ constitution.
Such misconduct they said, include non-accounting of the sum of N5 million meant for a tour of local governments and transmitting chapel funds to the Chairman’s personal bank account.
The members also complained about unilateral removal of two members of the chapel and depriving them of the State Government’s monthly allowance for two months, without any explanation.
“Pending the itemization of other issues, we seek explanation of the above-mentioned issues from the leadership of our great Chapel,” the group added.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of chapel has convened an Emergency Congress Meeting at 2 p.m. today at the chapel’s office located at the NUJ press centre, Kano.
