The Anambra State Government has condemned the attack on the convoy of the Chief of Staff to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, describing the incident as an assault on the peace, security, and democratic order of the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr. Law Mefor, said the attack occurred on Sunday night, May 31, between 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. along the Orumba North–Awka South border while the Chief of Staff was returning from an official assignment.
According to the government, the incident resulted in the death of four persons, a development it described as tragic and unacceptable.
“This was more than an attack on one person. It was an attack on the peace, security, and democratic order of our state, as well as the Government and people of Anambra,” the statement said.
The state government expressed its condolences to the families of the victims and assured them that justice would be served.
Mefor stated that the police and other security agencies had commenced investigations and were working to identify, apprehend, and prosecute all those responsible for the attack.
He noted that the incident was an isolated case, coming after more than a year of relative peace and improved security across the state.
The government reaffirmed its commitment to combating criminal activities and maintaining law and order, stressing that the attack would not deter its resolve to rid Anambra of all forms of crime.
“The incident will not affect our determination to remove all forms of crime from Anambra State,” the commissioner added.
The Anambra State Government pledged continued support for security agencies as efforts intensify to bring the perpetrators to justice and safeguard residents across the state.
