The First Lady of Jigawa State, Hajiya Hadiza Umar Namadi, has called on the public to actively participate in the ongoing awareness campaign aimed at combating Tuberculosis (TB) across the state.
Represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Hajiya Aisha Aminu Usman, the First Lady made this appeal during the official flag-off of the 2025 National Childhood Tuberculosis Campaign Week, held at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Dutse.
Hajiya Namadi noted that Nigeria currently ranks sixth globally and first in Africa for the highest burden of TB cases, stressing the urgent need for increased public awareness about the symptoms, risks, and preventive measures of the disease.
She further disclosed that TB claims over 600 lives globally every day, with 268 of those deaths occurring in Nigeria alone, according to recent reports.
To address the growing TB challenge in Jigawa, Hajiya Namadi revealed that her office has launched a comprehensive awareness initiative. This includes the establishment of a grassroots campaign network led by the wives of all 27 local government chairmen in the state.
She also commended Governor Malam Umar Namadi for his unwavering support and commitment to initiatives that benefit the women and children of Jigawa State.
