….VC hails Governor Yusuf for sports development

Academic Staff Union of University ASUU and National Association Academic Technologist NAAT of Northwest University, Kano have emerged winners of Inter-Union sports competitions held at the permanent site, Tudun Yola, Kano.
ASUU football team emerged overall winner in the event, having garnered seven points from three matches, while NAAT won in Chess and Table Tennis games.
The competitions was organized by the University’s sports directory under the leadership of Malam Ahmad Surajo aims at sustaining the existing cordial relationship among various unions towards the overall development of the institution.
Speaking, the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero described sports as a key factor that cementing cordial relationship as well as improve staff and students health status.
Professor Amina Salihi Bayero who represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Tijjani Buhari highlights some of benefits attach to sports, assuring that the University management would continue to encourage and support the sports directory in order to achieve the desired objectives.
While commending the participating Unions for their patient, understanding and support towards the successful and hitch free tournaments, she urged them to sustain the tempo in future championships.
The Vice Chancellor, however, said that the sports directory will soon organise inter Faculty competitions as part of the process to identify hidden talented players ahead of upcoming Nigerian University Games Association NUGA scheduled to hold in Calabar, the capital city of Cross River, November, 2026.
On sports facilities, she called on wealthy individuals, multi corporate organisations and government at all levels to contribute and support the University management effort in providing world class facilities in the sports complex.
The Vice Chancellor then applauded Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his commitment and support to the University, pledging that the management would continue to do their best in both academic excellent and sports development in the University.
Earlier, the University’s sports director, Malam Ahmad Surajo expressed gratitude to the management, participating Unions and the students for the support and cooperation, calling on the students athletes to redouble efforts especially in their training session aimed at making impact in the forthcoming Nigerian University Games Association NUGA in Calabar.
Highlights of the event include presentations of medals, certificates and trophies to the various winners in football, chess and Table Tennis games.
