Armed bandits have reportedly invaded Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing a woman and abducting three others during a late-night assault.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. on Saturday, when most residents had retired to bed.
Sources from the community told DAILY NIGERIAN that the attackers arrived on motorcycles but parked them on the outskirts of the village, proceeding on foot to avoid detection.
According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen shot and killed an elderly woman who pleaded with them to spare her son.
“They killed the old woman because she begged them not to take her son. After shooting her, they went away with him,” a resident said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The assailants reportedly went on to break into another house, where they abducted two women, one of whom is said to be the sister-in-law of the ward councillor.
Police authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
Yankamaye, located about five kilometres from Rimaye town in Katsina State, has suffered repeated bandit attacks in recent months, particularly after neighbouring Katsina communities signed a “peace accord” with the criminals.
