Bauchi Speaker defends Gov Mohammed, calls Dogara’s criticism misguided
Bauchi State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Abubakar Y. Suleiman, has criticized former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, over his recent comments against Governor Bala Mohammed.
This was contained in a statement released on Thursday by Mukhtar Garba Kobi, the spokesperson of the Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly.
According to the statement, Suleiman dismissed Dogara’s allegations as a verbose, baseless, and self-serving diatribe.
He asserted that they were mere attempts to tarnish the Governor’s reputation.
According to Suleiman, Governor Bala Mohammed remains a statesman whose leadership goes beyond personal interests and political maneuvering.
He emphasized that the Governor earned the people’s mandate through valuable services, grassroots appeal, and commitment to governance, not through backroom deals or personal favors.
Reacting to Dogara’s claims that Governor Bala lacked the financial capacity to fund his 2018 campaign, Suleiman refuted the assertion, stating that the Governor’s success was built on collective public support.
“Unlike some politicians that rely solely on personal wealth, Governor Bala Mohammed’s leadership thrives on inclusivity and transparency. His campaign was powered by trust, not the whims of a single individual,” Suleiman said.
Addressing allegations that Governor Bala failed to support other party candidates, Suleiman insisted that the Governor had consistently worked towards party unity and collective success.
“It is dishonest to suggest otherwise,” he said, adding that Governor Bala remained a key pillar of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) both in Bauchi State and at the national level.
On reports of grievances between Governor Bala and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, Suleiman described such claims as distractions.
He acknowledged that leadership often involves disagreements but maintained that Governor Bala had always prioritized collaboration over personal disputes.
“His commitment to unity within the party and across the nation remains unwavering,” he asserted.
Highlighting Governor Bala’s achievements, Suleiman pointed to infrastructural development, healthcare improvements, and investment in education as evidence of his administration’s impact.
“Bauchi has seen unprecedented transformation under his watch, and no amount of political mudslinging can erase that fact,” the Speaker said.
Suleiman urged politicians to engage in constructive discourse rather than resorting to character assassination, warning that Dogara’s approach undermines meaningful governance conversations.
“Politics should be about ideas, not personal attacks,” he cautioned.
Concluding, Suleiman reaffirmed Governor Bala Mohammed’s legacy as a leader dedicated to Bauchi’s development.
“No desperate attempt to rewrite history can overshadow his achievements. His work speaks louder than the words of his detractors,” he concluded .
