From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

A non-governmental organization, the BOLAH GIRL Initiative (BGI), in collaboration with Jigawa State Government’s Eyes on Environment Initiative and ACReASAL, has launched a 1,000 Women’s Tree Planting Campaign and sensitization program in Jigawa State.

Speaking at the sensitization event held in Jigawar Tsada Community, Dutse Local Government Area, the Executive Director of BOLAH GIRL Initiative, Hadiza Mansur, explained that the “One Tree of Hope Project” is an initiative by BGI aimed at addressing environmental challenges in the state.

Mansur highlighted that the initiative empowers women to lead resilience and climate change efforts, noting that women are the backbone of any society. “We chose to support women in planting trees because they are often at home and can take proper care of the trees,” she said.

She further explained that BGI selected Jigawa State for this project because it is among the states facing severe climate change challenges, including flooding, drought, extreme heat, and other environmental issues.

The initiative targets 15 states, including Jigawa, where women are being empowered to become tree-planting champions to help combat and reduce environmental degradation.

Mansur urged the participating women to take ownership of the trees and ensure their proper care, adding that the BGI team would conduct regular monitoring visits.

In his remarks on behalf of the Jigawa State Government, the Commissioner of Information, Youth, Culture, and Sports, Sagir Muhammad, commended BGI for their efforts and encouraged other organizations to follow their example.
