From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu
Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has urged chief imams of Jumu’ah mosques in Damaturu to intensify prayers for peace and stability in the state and Nigeria.
Buni made the appeal during a meeting with the imams, where he also called on them to use their Friday sermons to promote love, peace and tolerance among residents.
The governor recalled the painful experiences of insecurity in the state, stressing that Yobe could not afford further violence or instability.
He also emphasised the need for religious leaders to promote peaceful coexistence and intensify prayers as Nigeria approaches the next general election.
Earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Religious Affairs, Ustaz Babagana Malam Kyari, who convened the meeting, commended Buni for taking proactive steps to promote peaceful electioneering in the state.
Kyari assured the governor that the meeting would encourage the imams to intensify prayers and promote peace through their religious teachings.
