A suspected car thief reportedly infiltrated the Kano Government House in the early hours of Monday and made away with a Toyota Hilux van.
According to a reliable source, the intruder gained entry through Gate 4 around 5 a.m. and exited the premises with the vehicle.
Insiders revealed that CCTV footage later reviewed confirmed the suspect drove out through the main gate of the Government House.
Sources further disclosed that the stolen vehicle was part of the deputy governor’s convoy.
Another insider told this newspaper that the deputy governor’s office complex is usually patrolled only during official working hours or when the deputy governor is present.
The vehicle’s driver, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, was reportedly interrogated and briefly detained.
“Investigations have since commenced. The driver is being questioned, while the Chief Security Officer (CSO) is reviewing the CCTV recordings.
“Details of the vehicle have been circulated to security agencies to facilitate its recovery and the arrest of the suspect,” the source added.
As of the time of filing this report, all efforts to reach the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, via phone call and text message proved unsuccessful, as he neither returned the calls nor responded to the messages.
