Cholera Outbreak: Jigawa Records Zero Cases – Dr. Kainuwa
From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse
Despite reports of a cholera outbreak in some parts of Nigeria, the Jigawa state government has announced that no cases have been recorded in the state.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abdullahi Kainuwa, made this announcement while briefing journalists on the disease’s status in his office.
Dr. Kainuwa explained that cholera outbreaks are a perennial problem in Jigawa state, particularly during the early rainy season.
However, due to the concerted efforts of the state government, National Primary Healthcare, and donor partners, the disease’s occurrence and spread have been successfully controlled over the past two years. Currently, there are no reported cases of cholera in the state.
“To prevent any potential outbreaks, the state has placed its disease surveillance mechanism on high alert across all 287 political wards in the 27 local government areas”
“The government has also launched a public awareness campaign to educate communities on the importance of personal and environmental hygiene and the need to avoid drinking unclean water”
“The government is urging communities to report any broken public water facilities to the nearest authorities for immediate repair, ensuring access to clean water in all communities” Dr. Abdullahi revealed.
According to Dr. Kainuwa, there are currently no reported cases of cholera in the state, and all necessary measures are being taken to prevent any potential outbreaks.
