Citizens brainstorm on reforms at community level

Participants of an interactive session, on identifying citizens roles in contributing and transforming initiatives at community level, have expressed their willingness in fulfilling their commitments, through advocacy and stakeholders engagement.

The session which attracted 50 participants including, people living with disabilities (PWDs), traditional leaders,women groups, CBOs,CSOs and the media.

Speaking on the objectives, the state partnership facilitator, Partnership to engage reform and learn, Alhaji Yunusa Hamza explained that, the session would strengthen partnerships ,among community structures towards advocating and securing reforms.

He stressed that, reforms in service delivery such as access to basic health services, education, agriculture, empowerment and security in governance would promote safe spaces, at the local government level.

” To identify and document how citizens can influence structural changes in the delivery of services at community level ”

In his presentation titled “local governance” Sulaiman Umar Isma’il representing Kano charter of demands, identified local stakeholders to include local government, traditional/religious leaders, CBOs, CSOs and pressure groups.

He pointed out that, local governance can be strengthened at the community level through democracy, school based management committees (SBMC), budget, inclusion, rights, ward development committee (WDC) as well as the basic healthcare provision fund (BHCBF).

“local governance refers to the administration and decision making process that takes place at the local level within a specific geographical area such as, city town or village”

The interactive session supported by PERL (ECP), was marked by group presentations in the areas of health, education, budget and gender, inclusion and attracted the secretary national association of the blind Kano chapter, Comrade Andulrazak Ado Zango, state WDC chairman Malam Bashir Adamu Jigirya, ward head of Gama Alhaji Rabi’u among others.
