CJID, Dataphyte, Yiaga Africa, BudgIT And DEAN Initiative launch Nigeria Election Data Observatory (NEDO)

Five civil society organisations have established the Nigeria Election Data Observatory (NEDO), a joint initiative to strengthen election observation, information sharing and electoral accountability ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
Launched in Abuja, the consortium will develop a shared system for collecting, analysing and verifying electoral information.
Speaking on behalf of the consortium, Oluseyi Olufemi, Country Director of Dataphyte Foundation, highlighted the fragmentation of election observation efforts and the need for greater collaboration.
“We recognise that no single civil society organisation, regardless of its experience or resources, can adequately respond to these challenges at the national level,” he said.
As part of the consortium, CJID will coordinate media engagement, ensuring that verified electoral data, findings and emerging issues reach journalists, newsrooms and the public. Drawing on its expertise in investigative journalism, fact-checking and media development, CJID will support accurate and evidence-based election reporting.
Through NEDO, the five organisations will pool their expertise to strengthen election observation, improve access to credible information and promote electoral transparency and accountability.
The initiative is supported by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
