Constituents vow to recall Zamfara Senator, Sahabi Ya’u

Constituents of Senatorial district which comprised Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Zurmi and Birnin Magaji local government areas of Zamfara State have embarked on compiling signatures in a move to recall Senator Sahabi Ya’u over alleged poor representation and incompetence to battle for their interests at the House of Senate.
This is contained in a press statement by the Chairman Youths for Zamfara North Development (YZND), Bello Muhammad Shinkafi and counter signed by Abubakar Sani Zurmi and made available to newsmen in Gusau the state capital, saying, the move was initiated as part of strategy for the check and balance as it relates to lawmakers elected by the people.
The state explained that, the move to recall Sen. Sahabi Ya’u was an initiation design to demonstrate the dissatisfaction of the people of the Senatorial District about Sahabi’s poor performance at the 10th National Assembly.
“Unlike before when he used to do some little efforts to present the serious concerns of his people, the Senator is now sleeping on the floor with nothing to show about his people which he put forward for deliberations on the floor of the Senate” the content of the statement captured.
“By June 2024 the 10th National Assembly will be clicking one year old and Senator Sahabi Alh Ya’u is ending the year in the Senate without a single bill or motion and this is despite the series of socio-economic crisis faced by the people of the Senatorial Zone”.
“Kaura Namoda where came, as well as Zurmi, Birnin Magaji and may be except Shinkafi that has entered into a temporary reconciliation have been battling with with threats by the armed bandit and for once since his re-election in 2023, he has never stand on the floor of the National Assembly to move a motion asking for Senate to make a resolution on how to respond to the menace“ the statement added.
“Just as a show of concern, Kaura Namoda has for instance came under constant attacks by the bandits and to the extent that some concern citizens from Kaura Namoda, Sakajiki and rest have to took to the street for peaceful protest for being neglected, but Sen. Sahabi Ya’u has never for once feel it was important to come and condole with the people who lost their relatives to banditry”.
“Everybody is aware of the constant murderous attacks by armed bandits in Zurmi local government where to some extent reports indicated that there was even an attempt to abduct the emir himself as various operatives of Community Protection Guards (CPG) including Police officers were killed, but Senator Ya’u has not come yet to show sympathize or condole for the lost”.
It is crystal clear that, Senator Ikira Aliyu Bilbis who is representing Zamfara central, Senator Abdulaziz Yari representative of Zamfara west, and Hon. Kabiru Amadu for standing firmly to voice out the feelings of their people, but in the case of Zamfara North reverse is the case.
“Based on this development, we held our first meeting in Shinkafi local government area where we resolved to communicate to constituents across the Senatorial district, to begin the collection of signatures, and within a week, we will forward our position to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) all in a process to recall him, we are disappointed over his legislative representation” the statement added.
