El-Rufai Accuses Government of Orchestrating Crisis in Opposition Parties
By Salisu Hamisu Ali
A former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has alleged that the ongoing crisis within opposition parties is a deliberate strategy orchestrated by the ruling government.
In a video seen by our correspondent, El-Rufai made this claim while addressing members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
He asserted that certain individuals had been contracted to destabilize opposition parties, including the Labour Party (LP), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
“The crisis in the Labour Party is caused by the government of the day. Everyone knows it. Jumping from one court to another is a tactic designed to distract the party leadership from focusing on its core responsibilities,” El-Rufai stated.
He further claimed that the NNPP was also a target, citing the recent expulsion of its presidential candidate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the party’s only sitting governor.
“When you see things like that, you know it’s a contrived crisis. Which party expels its only governor? It is clearly orchestrated,” he said. However, he added that he did not have full details of the situation.
El-Rufai Dumps APC, Joins SDP
El-Rufai officially joined the SDP on Monday, severing ties with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement explaining his decision, the former governor said the APC leadership had failed to address the party’s internal issues, making it impossible for him to continue under its platform.
“At this point in my political journey, I have come to the conclusion that I must seek another political platform for the pursuit of the progressive values I cherish,” he declared.
His defection marks a significant shift in the country’s political landscape, with speculation mounting over his next moves within the SDP.
