The Ezioko Erosion Emergency Group, a village stakeholders’ intervention body saddled with monitoring flood channels and drains and responding to emergencies before situations worsen, hereby express our deep and sincere gratitude to the Anambra State Government under Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, for approving the construction of a floodwater diversion channel at Ezioko, Oko-Nanka, Orumba North LGA. .
According to the Anambra State Executive Council press release following its last meeting on Monday, June 8, 2026, the State Government approved the sum of *N801,674,399.75* (eight hundred and one million, six hundred and seventy-four thousand, three hundred and ninety-nine naira, seventy-five kobo) only for the construction of a floodwater diversion channel at Ezioko, Oko-Nanka, Orumba North LGA. The contract was awarded to Lebtech Construction Ltd.
We see this approval as another direct response to the SOS sent to the Governor by the group on the sudden collapse of a major drain conveying flood water from Nanka and environs to Ezioko Village and a greater part of Oko community. Without this action on the part of the Governor, the situation in that part of Ezioko would have worsened during this rainy season. A stitch in time, they say, saves nine.
We thank Governor Soludo for this timely intervention and urge him not to relent because there are many other threatening erosion sites in Ezioko and indeed Oko in general.
Our main task is to maintain constant integrity checks on flood channels and drains and to respond to emergencies before they deteriorate. For years, Ezioko and indeed all Oko have continued to battle destructive flood and landslides that destroy homes, farmlands, and lives. This government intervention supports our self help efforts and we look forward to working with the Government to check this scourge going forward.
This project indeed aligns with Governor Soludo’s mantra of “building a livable and prosperous Anambra” and his administration’s proactive approach to tackling ecological challenges across the state.
We pledge our full cooperation with Lebtech Construction Ltd and relevant government agencies to ensure smooth execution and conclusion of the project. We will continue our integrity survey of drains and channels so that this intervention will not be in vain
We call on Ezioko residents to to continue to support the contractor and avoid acts that could block waterways or worse the situation in any way whatsoever.
