FCDO urges Gov Namadi to establish Digital Agency

The Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO), has called on Jigawa state government to establish agency or ministry for digital economy.

The call was made by the founder of Blue Sapphire Hub, Hajiya Maryam Lawal Gwadabe while delivering her speech during the dissemination on sustainable and inclusive digital transformation project at government house Dutse on Tuesday.

She said, the Foreign Commonwealth Development Office (FCDO) through Blue Sapphire Hub engaged Jigawa stakeholders on ICT and other related agencies and develope five digital policies.

Gwadabe identified the five policies as Digital economy policy and strategy, Jigawa E-governance and Civic tech tools, Digital jobs playbook, Jigawa broadband plan and Reduction for the cost of write of way.

While responding after the dissemination, The Jigawa state governor Malam Umar Namadi, assured to own documents developed by Blue Sapphire Hub in the state.

He explained that, the state government will consider establishment of an outfit to serve as the state information technology development agency to drive implementation of the state ICT.

“I therefore assure our partners that the documents developed through the digital access program would be owned by the state and would have an institutional home to drive their implementation.

“We are determine not be left behind in reaping the dividends of this revolution, especially for the teeming youths in our state”, he said.

According to the governor, his administration resolved to persue an integrated ICT policy not just to promote e-governance but most importantly to facilitate the gradual emergence of the state’s digital economy, create jobs and improve service delivery.
