By Ibrahim Kaulahi, Gusau

The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has announced that 2,534 students have been prepared for the 2024 graduation ceremony with the Faculty of Science that produced the highest graduands for the 3rd and 4th Convocation bringing the total of number of 1,195.

In a press conference on Monday, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mu’azu Abubakar Gusau, said in a general summary of class of degrees obtained by the graduates, that 43 have obtained First Class degree across the 3rd and 4th Convocations while 676 and 1,737 have obtained Second class upper division and Second class lower division respectively.

Prof. Gusau, noted that, the recorded success achieved on both teaching and learning under his administration may not be unconnected with the restoration of staff training and development which was earlier suspended before his assumption as substantive Vice Chancellor.

In addition to same light, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had granted full accreditation to the remaining 15 academic programmes bearing interim accreditation, this is added with the scholarship of 190 staff of the University who benefited from TEFUND interventions amongst many more achievements.

“I would like to state here that, achievements could not have been recorded anywhere without some challenges as what we are facing in the institution is not unique to us alone but other federal institutions in Nigeria and Northwest in particular.

“These challenges are of funding and insecurity bedeviled us, the needs of our institutions are enormous and the funding from the federal government is always inadequate, therefore, the need for all well-to-do individuals to invest heavily on education thereby complementing the efforts of the federal government”, Prof. Gusau has advocated.
