The Federal Government College Kano Old Students Association (FGCKOSA) has asked the Federal High Court in Abuja to stop what it described as the unlawful conversion of land belonging to Federal Government College (FGC) Kano into private property.
In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Aminu Haruna Maipampo, the association said the suit seeks judicial intervention to protect the school’s land from being transferred to a private developer under the guise of a Public Private Partnership arrangement.
FGCKOSA is seeking a declaration from the court that land reserved for Federal Government College Kano for educational purposes cannot be converted into private property for the benefit of any private developer.
The association is also asking the court to nullify any concession, transfer, lease, sale or land-swap arrangement that may have been entered into in violation of the Land Use Act, relevant concession laws and constitutional provisions guiding public institutions.
In addition, FGCKOSA is requesting a perpetual injunction restraining the Federal Ministry of Education, Pluck Global Company Limited and their agents from selling, allocating, developing, marking or interfering with the disputed land.
The old students’ body further wants the court to compel all public institutions involved in the transaction to provide full accountability regarding the conception, approval and attempted implementation of the project.
According to the association, the suit also seeks judicial clarification on whether any ministry, agency or private company has the authority to treat land belonging to a federal government school as disposable real estate without due process and lawful approvals.
FGCKOSA maintained that the case extends beyond FGC Kano, saying it would set an important legal precedent on the protection of public educational assets across the country.
The association called on the parties involved to suspend all activities on the disputed land pending the determination of the suit by the court.
It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Federal Government College Kano and preserving its assets for present and future generations.
