As the world marks the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has called for renewed commitments from the government, civil societies, technology companies, and the judiciary to end violence against women.
This was revealed in a statement by the First Lady on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday.
Speaking on the theme, Senator Oluremi Tinubu noted that Nigeria joins the world in commemorating the 2025 observance under the theme “UNiTE to End Digital Violence Against All Women and Girls.” She urged stakeholders to take stronger actions to end all forms of violence.
“This important theme speaks to the urgent need to address a growing and often invisible threat of online abuse, harassment, extortion, and exploitation of women and girls,” the First Lady stated.
She emphasized that digital spaces should foster genuine human connection, facilitate learning, and promote productivity not fear adding that many women and girls face bullying, blackmail, stalking, and gender-based violence online.
Senator Tinubu reaffirmed her solidarity with those working to end gender-based violence and pledged continuous support to survivors.
“I call on government institutions especially the legislature and the judiciary technology companies, civil society, and every Nigerian to take bold action to make digital spaces safe, inclusive, and respectful for all,” she added.
She concluded by wishing Nigerians a Happy International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.
