Flood : NOA advocates for Safety Measures to Jigawa communities

The Nation Orientation Agency (NOA) urged the communities along Hadejia river line in 12 local government areas in Jigawa state to be vigilant follow safety measures against the focus flooding as the raining season enters its peak period.

This was contained in a statement, signed by the state director of NOA and made it available to news men through his Public relations officer Miss Sera Ogodo in Dutse, the state capital.

“The State Director of the Agency, Malam Ahmad Tijjani Ibrahim reminded the communities and general public the annual weather forecast indicates that the state is likely to experience heavy rainfalls in the coming week”.

“In line with weather prediction by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET), the agency has urged citizens especially those residing in lowland areas/communities to vigilant and always heed to the safety measures as provided by the authority to mitigate the impacts of flood”.

“State Director of the Agency the
annual weather forecast indicates that the state is likely to experience heavy rainfalls in the coming week”, the statement said.

According to the statement, explained that in the recent time, human activities have caused
unprecedented climate change problems including annual flood experiences which lead to displacement of settlements, loss of lives and wanton destruction of property across the country.

“The National Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) Centre Of The Federal Ministry of Environment report on flood prediction indicates that heavy rainfall that may lead to flood disaster is likely to occur in Miga, Ringim, Hadejia and
Dutse”.

The statement stated further that “There Is also a report of potential failureof theTiga Dam in Kano as a result of envisaged excessive rainfalls, which invariably will affect a lot of communities and towns in Jigawa state”.

“People Must therefore stay informed especially on theneed to beproactiveas this is theonly way wecan mitigate the impacts ofthis imminent disaster on our communities,” theDirector added.

The agency reaffirmed that will utilizeall the platforms at its disposal towards ensuring the citizens are informed and
educated on how they can minimize the impacts of the flood.
