Former councilors in Plateau rejects Governor Mutfwang’s interest to join APC

From Tongnaan Bawa, Jos

Former councillors in Plateau State have openly rejected what they call alleged moves by Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Speaking at the NUJ Press Centre in Jos, on Monday, spokesman of the Immediate Past Elected Councillors Forum, Dabit Dashe, said the governor’s reported interest in joining the APC contradicts his previous public statements dismissing the party in Plateau State.

Dashe told journalists that, “Governor Mutfwang has consistently said there is no APC in Plateau and that he would never join a party he once described as collapsing. His sudden desperation is therefore confusing.”

The forum accused the governor of maladministration, claiming his policies have led to hardship, homelessness, job losses, and the disengagement of over four thousand youths. They also alleged that he violated a Supreme Court judgment by sacking elected chairmen and councillors in all the Seventeen Local Government Areas.

According to the group, these actions disqualify the governor from joining what they call the “progressive APC.” They urged the party’s national and state leaders—including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and Plateau Chairman Rufus Bature—to reject any such move.

They also recalled Governor Mutfwang’s criticism of the APC’s Muslim-Muslim presidential ticket during the 2023 elections, questioning what they describe as his sudden political turnaround.

The forum insisted the governor adds no political value to the APC, saying he should remain in the PDP and allow the opposition to hold him accountable.

They concluded by endorsing President Tinubu for re-election in 2027 and passing a vote of confidence on APC National Chairman, Prof. Yilwatda.
