Former Minister Adamu Waziri Resigns from PDP, Joins ADC
Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri, former Minister of Police Affairs and PDP Board of Trustees member, has formally resigned from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Waziri submitted his resignation letter to the Ward Chairman at the Dogotubo Ward Centre on Monday in Potiskum Local Government, Yobe State.
He cited the PDP’s “current leadership and direction as inconsistent with a major political party,” stating the party “has lost its moral standing as the primary opposition bastion.”
Waziri described as ironic the PDP’s founding mission in 1998 to combat non-democratic rule, given its present condition.
The former minister emphasized his decision was driven by national interest and a desire to “recreate democracy, restore good governance, and enable Nigerians to live in peace and prosperity.”
He plans to recruit associates to join the ADC and invited former colleagues to help “restore democratic hope.”
The defection coincided with an ADC zonal meeting in Potiskum town, attended by interim executives from state, zonal, local government, and ward levels.
The state party Chairman,ADC ,Mr Umaru Kallil while speaking at the zonal meeting expressed confidence that the ADC could “wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 and return Nigeria to the path of economic recovery.”
Party leaders used the occasion to urge “youth, women, and the elderly to join the ADC to move the country forward.”
