The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has appreciated his predecessor, Prof. Hafizu Abubakar, for dedicating his time and energy towards the development and progress of Kano State.
Deputy Governor Garo made the commendation while receiving the former deputy governor during a courtesy visit to his office on Tuesday.
Garo disclosed that Prof. Hafizu had made several attempts to visit him since he assumed office, but he respectfully declined, insisting that he should be the one to pay the first visit as a mark of respect and honour to his predecessor.
“Whenever an elder wishes to do something, as a mentee you have to accept it. I also promise to reciprocate the visit,” Garo stated.
The Deputy Governor appreciated the visit and acknowledged the strong bond existing between them, describing it as a relationship built over many years. He further appealed to Prof. Hafizu to always offer guidance and advice whenever necessary for the development of Kano State.
Earlier in his remarks, former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Prof. Hafizu Abubakar, said the purpose of the visit was to congratulate Garo on his appointment as Deputy Governor.
According to him, it is part of Islamic teachings to rejoice with people during moments of happiness and sympathize with them during difficult times, hence the decision to personally visit and celebrate with the Deputy Governor despite Garo’s insistence on paying the first visit.
“We are truly happy beyond expectations over your new role,” Prof. Hafizu said.
Prof. Hafizu also commended Garo’s loyalty and obedience to leadership, expressing confidence that he would demonstrate the same commitment and support to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The former Deputy Governor equally praised Governor Yusuf’s “Kano First Agenda,” noting that the initiative is designed for the collective interest and wellbeing of the people of Kano State rather than personal benefit.
Prof. Hafizu pledged his continued support and readiness to offer useful advice and contributions towards the development of Kano State and Nigeria at large.
“I call on all supporters of His Excellency Garo to continue praying for him to succeed in all his affairs,” he added.
