Kano State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has stressed that meaningful political progress and development can only be achieved through unity among stakeholders and elders, including respected statesmen such as former Governor Senator Ibrahim Shekarau
Alhaji Murtala Garo made the remarks while receiving members of the Shekarau Shura Council during a courtesy visit to his office to congratulate him on his emergence as Deputy Governor of the state today Thursday.
The Deputy Governor appreciated the visit of the delegation and recalled his long-standing relationship with Senator Ibrahim Shekarau, noting that on the day he assumed office as Deputy Governor of Kano State, Shekarau personally escorted him to the office.
He also said he would never forget the former governor’s support during his difficult moments, recalling that when his elder brother passed away, Senator Shekarau stood by him and also attended the janaza to pay his last respects.
Alhaji Garo commended Senator Shekarau for his contributions to the development of Kano State during and after his tenure as governor, describing his continued support as valuable to the state’s progress.
He assured that the state government would continue to collaborate with the Shekarau Shura Council in order to achieve Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s mandate of delivering the Kano First Agenda for the overall development of the state.
He further expressed confidence that members of the Shura Council would be engaged in this administration in due course, noting that they would also be carried along in campaign and governance activities.
He reiterated the commitment of the present administration to inclusivity, unity, and partnership with key stakeholders for the advancement of Kano State.
Speaking earlier, the head of the Shekarau Shura Advisory Council, Dr. Umar Musa Mustapha aka Mai Minsilata , said the purpose of the visit was to congratulate the Deputy Governor on his emergence and to express the council’s satisfaction at coming together under one umbrella to move the state forward.
He said the Shura Council is fully committed to supporting Governor Yusuf’s administration, pledging 100 percent support from top to bottom.
According to him, the council is satisfied with the direction of the administration and affirmed that their votes and allegiance remain with the state government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
“We are in this party and movement with one heart,” he said, while also requesting the inclusion of Shura members in government activities such as campaigns and other engagements.
