The Deputy Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, has offered N20,000 each to students who completed their Qur’anic studies as part of efforts to encourage Islamic education.
Garo announced the gesture today while representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf at the annual Maulud gathering convened by former Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government Area and former Commissioner for Special Duties, Hon. Muntari Ishaq Yakasai.
He called on Muslims, particularly youths, to emulate the exemplary life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), stressing that Maulud should serve as an opportunity to reflect on the Prophet’s character and apply his teachings in everyday life.
According to him, the gathering should not be limited to celebrations and other activities but should inspire Muslims to uphold what Islam permits and refrain from what it prohibits.
Garo noted that the life of Prophet Muhammad was characterised by righteousness, piety, honesty, trustworthiness and patience, adding that Muslims who emulate these virtues stand to achieve success in this world and the Hereafter.
He further urged the Muslim community to practise piety, love their neighbours, give alms, forgive others and uphold other noble values exemplified by the Prophet.
The Deputy Governor commended Yakasai for sustaining the annual Maulud gathering, which has remained a family tradition for more than 30 years, and prayed for Allah to grant the family the strength and resources to continue the tradition for generations to come.
Speaking earlier, Hon. Yakasai appreciated the Deputy Governor for attending the occasion, noting that Islamic scholars consistently emphasise the importance of acquiring knowledge about how to honour and respect Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
He explained that the desire to promote such knowledge and deepen understanding of the Prophet’s status and teachings was among the reasons behind the annual Maulud gathering.
