GIDAN YANCI Commends House of Reps for Rejecting Voter Transfer Bill

By Mustapha Salisu

The Gidan Yanci Fellowship, a programme with 15 Kano-based young leaders dedicated to promoting political participation and good governance, applauds the House of Representatives for rejecting the proposed amendment to the Electoral Act, 2022.

PRIME TIME NEWS gathered that, this amendment, if passed, would have required voters seeking to transfer their registration data to reside in their new constituency for at least two months.

The Gidan Yanci Fellowship views this as a step that could have exacerbated voter apathy, a significant challenge in Nigerian elections.

The Gidan Yanci Fellowship urges the House of Representatives to prioritize legislation that strengthens voter participation. This could include initiatives such as:

– Simplifying the voter registration process.

– Increasing voter education and awareness campaigns.

– Enhancing transparency and security in the electoral system.

By focusing on these areas, the House can empower Nigerians to exercise their right to vote and contribute to a more vibrant democracy.
