The Gombe State Commissioner for Local Government and Community development Barrister Sani Ahmad Haruna, has applauded Tsangaya teachers across the state for backing the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Dr Jamilu Isiyaku Gwamna, ahead of the 2027 election.
The teachers pledged their support for Jamilu Gwamna and promised to mobilise 150,000 votes for the APC during the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking after a meeting organised by the Tsangaya teachers, Sani described the endorsement as an appreciation of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s interventions in Qur’anic education and efforts to improve the welfare of Almajirai.
He said the administration had demonstrated commitment to transforming the Tsangaya system through the construction of 11 major Tsangaya schools, one in each of the state’s 11 local government areas.
According to him, the government has also established more than 120 learning centres and provided facilities to create a conducive environment for Qur’anic education.
The commissioner urged local government chairmen and other stakeholders to emulate the governor by supporting Tsangaya teachers and contributing to the development of religious and formal education.
The teachers said their decision to support the APC candidate was based on what they described as unprecedented government interventions in Tsangaya education and the welfare of Almajirai.
They cited the provision of teaching materials, accommodation and vocational training, as well as the enrolment of 1,000 Almajirai in the state’s health insurance scheme.
They also commended the establishment of the Almajiri Agency, saying it would provide a more organised framework for the development and management of Almajiri education.
The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on Almajiri and Tsangaya Education, Sayyada Amina Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi, said the administration had prioritised Tsangaya education by integrating Qur’anic studies with modern education.
She said the construction of the 11 Tsangaya schools and youth training centres had given students opportunities to acquire vocational skills and become self-reliant.
She added that some of the interventions were implemented through the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme.
She assured that the government would continue to support initiatives aimed at strengthening Qur’anic education and improving the welfare and future prospects of Almajirai across the state.
