From Abubakar Rabilu Gombe
The Da’awa and Relief Organisation in Gombe State has appealed to philanthropists, government agencies and other well-meaning Nigerians to support its humanitarian and religious activities aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable people across the state.
Chairman of the organisation, Dr. Muhammad Lawan, made the appeal during a press conference held at the group’s headquarters in Gombe.
He said the organisation has continued to play a vital role in the propagation of Islam, provision of relief materials to widows, orphans and the less privileged, as well as promoting peace and reconciliation within communities.
According to him, the organisation also runs educational and enlightenment programmes through its education committee, which organises seminars, workshops and other Islamic orientation activities aimed at promoting moral values and religious teachings.
Dr. Lawan explained that the group’s HISBAH command has been complementing the efforts of security agencies by helping to maintain peace and order during religious gatherings and festive celebrations.
He disclosed that the organisation currently provides support to over 2,000 registered widows and orphans through the distribution of food items, clothing and other relief materials, especially during Ramadan and Eid festivities.
The chairman, however, lamented the challenges facing the organisation, including inadequate hostel accommodation within its school premises and the breakdown of two operational buses used for its programmes and outreach activities.
He added that the organisation also requires additional logistics and financial support to strengthen its humanitarian operations and provide adequate assistance to new converts to Islam.
Dr. Lawan therefore called on wealthy individuals, charitable organisations and relevant authorities to partner with the group in sustaining its humanitarian and religious interventions for the benefit of vulnerable residents in the state.
