Google’s first West Africa director resigns 

Dr. Juliet Ehimuan, Google’s inaugural Director for West Africa, has revealed her decision to leave the company.

She made the announcement on LinkedIn on Friday where she expressed her intention to pursue a broader role within the regional technology landscape.

Before her appointment as Google’s West Africa Director, she served as the company’s Country Director for Nigeria.

Under Dr. Juliet Ehimuan’s leadership as Director, the Google team in Africa accomplished equipping over 6 million Africans with digital skills through training programs. 

Additionally, they facilitated web and mobile development training for 100,000 developers and established a dedicated Google for Startups accelerator to support African tech entrepreneurs.

Furthermore, during her time as Director, important access projects were executed, including the expansion of the Google Station program in Nigeria and the deployment of Google’s Equiano fibre cable, which spans from Portugal to South Africa, connecting Africa with Europe. These initiatives have played a significant role in enhancing internet accessibility and affordability for millions of people in Nigeria and beyond.

Her leadership in committees like the National Economic Summit Group (NESG) and the Presidential Committee are responsible for creating the national broadband plan in 2019 which had been influential in shaping the ICT strategy of the region.
