Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has commended the peaceful conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives direct primaries held across Gombe State, describing the exercise as transparent, orderly and credible.
The governor spoke shortly after participating in the primary election at his Jekadafari Ward in Gombe Local Government Area.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya expressed satisfaction with the turnout of party members and praised the peaceful atmosphere that characterized the exercise across the state.
He lauded the election management committee and party stakeholders for ensuring a level playing field for all aspirants, stressing that the process reflected the democratic ideals of the APC.
According to him, all contestants remain members of one political family regardless of the outcome of the election.
“There is no victor and no vanquished. We are all members of the APC, and I urge everyone to unite and work together for the success of our great party ahead of the forthcoming general elections,” the governor said.
He also emphasized the need for sustained cooperation among party members to consolidate the developmental achievements recorded by the APC administration in Gombe State.
“We will continue to work together to meet the aspirations and expectations of the people of Gombe State,” he added.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya further expressed delight over the maturity displayed by party members during the exercise, noting that the peaceful conduct of the election was a positive sign for democracy in the state.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the APC National Primary Election Committee for Gombe State and representative of the party’s national headquarters, Labiru Musa Kafur, commended the Gombe APC leadership under Governor Inuwa Yahaya for promoting internal democracy and ensuring a peaceful process.
“We are highly satisfied with the transparent and peaceful conduct of the election,” he stated.
The primary election was monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission and independent observers.
For the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency seat, the aspirants, Hon. Sadam Bello and Alhaji Zakariyya Jidda, were represented by their agents during the exercise.
The presiding officer, Alhaji Yahaya Ibrahim Makeri, after conducting a headcount, declared Sadam Bello winner of the exercise in Jekadafari Ward.
Similar peaceful exercises were recorded in several wards across the state.
