Gov. Yusuf fulfilling healthcare promises to Kano residents – Dr. Labaran
Kano State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, has commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for delivering on his campaign promises regarding healthcare infrastructure in the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the ministry’s Information Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi on Monday.
According to the statement, Labaran made this known in an exclusive interview with the head of the Public Relations Unit of the Ministry of Health, Ibrahim Abdullahi.
According to the commissioner, Governor Yusuf’s commitment to improving healthcare services is evident in the renovation and upgrade of various health facilities across primary, secondary, and tertiary levels.
“Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf made several promises during his election campaign to enhance healthcare in Kano. Part of those promises included establishing general hospitals in local government areas that lacked them and ensuring a functional primary healthcare facility in every political ward across the 44 LGAs,” Dr. Labaran stated.
He further emphasized that upgrading some existing facilities to general hospitals is part of the administration’s effort to bring quality healthcare closer to the people.
“It is discouraging to see a patient transported over 100 kilometers just to access medical care. The government’s goal is to ensure that each local government area has a general hospital, fully equipped with qualified staff to handle various ailments,” he added.
Dr. Labaran urged the public to support the government’s efforts by protecting the renovated facilities from vandalism and theft.
He also appealed to residents to cooperate with healthcare workers, acknowledging that medical professionals, like everyone else, are bound by professional standards but can make mistakes.
On the other hand, he cautioned healthcare workers against treating patients harshly, stressing that the administration of Governor Yusuf would not tolerate inhumane treatment of individuals seeking medical attention.
“The government is committed to improving healthcare delivery, but we also expect health workers to uphold professionalism and treat patients with respect,” he warned.
