Governor Lawal Tours Mining Sites in Zamfara, Pledges Revenue Growth Amid Security Gains
Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has reaffirmed his commitment to boosting revenue generation following significant improvements in security across the state. During a tour of mining sites and factories in Anka and Maru Local Government Areas on Wednesday, the governor emphasized the economic potential of the region’s vast mineral resources.
A statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, noted that the tour was aimed at exploring opportunities to enhance revenue streams for Zamfara State.
Governor Lawal commenced his visit at Comet Star Industry, a private mining company situated in Anka LGA. Owned by Prince James Uduji OON, the factory processes approximately 1,000 tons of minerals daily using state-of-the-art technology.
While inspecting the facility, Governor Lawal toured key sections including the discharge bay, crusher section, conveyor belt, shaking table, powerhouse, and laboratory. Expressing satisfaction with the factory’s operations, he remarked that such investments align with the state government’s economic goals.
“I am delighted today because this clearly shows the improvement in security in Zamfara State. I appreciate the troops and all stakeholders working tirelessly to ensure peace,” he said. “More importantly, discussions are ongoing between the Federal Government, State Government, the private sector, and communities to identify our assets and areas of comparative advantage. Zamfara is blessed with solid minerals, and if managed properly, we will improve revenue and accelerate development.”
In Maru LGA, Governor Lawal met with artisanal miners and assured them of the government’s full support, provided they operate within legal frameworks. He pledged to supply essential tools to curb environmental degradation and enhance mining operations.
“We are collaborating with the federal government and taking specific steps to implement necessary measures. I will direct the environment commissioner to meet with you so that everyone can register. By registering, we will be able to maintain proper records,” he stated.
He further promised that the state government would assist artisanal miners in securing small-scale mining leases from the Federal Government, urging them to form cooperative societies to benefit from government support.
Governor Lawal’s visit underscores Zamfara’s strategic push toward economic transformation by leveraging its rich mineral deposits, while also reinforcing security measures to ensure sustainable development.
