Governor Yusuf sets up palliative distribution committee

In an effort to ensure accountability and transparency in the distribution and responsible utilization of palliatives, Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has set up compliance committees at state, local governments and ward levels.

This was contained in a statement signed by Sanusi Bature, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor on Friday.

During the inauguration of the state-level committee at Africa House, the Governor emphasized the importance of ensuring that only the intended beneficiaries receive the palliatives.

The governor also warned that all political office holders and senior civil servants shall not be part of the palliative beneficiaries as the gesture is meant for the less privileged, orphans and vulnerable groups, people living with disabilities, hospitals and other rehabilitation centers.

The Governor tasked the committee to ensure prudence , transparency and accountability in the distribution of the palliatives to meet the desired goals.

Recall that the governor had recently flagged-off the distribution of palliatives.

The state compliance committee, chaired by Dr. Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, the Secretary to the State Government, consists of the following members: Alhaji Shehu Wada Sagagi, Chief of Staff; Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, Commissioner of Education; Dr. Danjuma Mahmoud, Commissioner of Agriculture; and Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, Commissioner of Health.

Others include, Commissioner of Special Duties, Hajia Amina Abdullahi HOD, her counterparts of Religious Affairs, Sheik Ahmad Tijjani,Women, Children and Disabled, Hajia Aisha Lawan Transportation, Engr. Muhammad Diggol and that of Rural and Community Development, Hon. Hamza Kachako,while Executive Secretary, Kano State Emergency Management Agency, Hon. Isyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi and Special Adviser to the Governor on Food Security, Hajia Aisha Muhammad Idris will manage the secretariat of the committee.

While the compliance committee at local government level comprises of : member of House of Representative/ Commissioner/ State Assembly Member from the Local Government, the political leader of the LGA, local government chairman, CRC (Community Re-Orientation Committee) Chairman, Lafiya Jari chairman, SBMC (Schools Based Management Committee) chairman and Chief Imam of the local government while Secretary to be nominated among the committee members.

At ward level, the compliance committee comprises CRC chairman, Political leader of the ward, Councillor representing the ward, Chief Imam, most senior village head, SBMC chairman, two women and secretary to be nominated members of the committee.

The Governor also warned that anyone found selling the palliative items will face severe consequences.

“The government is resolute in its commitment to assisting those in dire need, with the goal of alleviating extreme hunger and eradicating abject poverty within the state,” he said.
