The Kano State Governor, His Excellency Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been nominated for the prestigious Media Friendly Award by the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), led by its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya.
This honour, according to the NUJ, is in recognition of Governor Yusuf’s exceptional contributions to national development, promotion of good governance, and his unwavering support for press freedom and the growth of journalism in Nigeria. The union also cited the Governor’s exemplary leadership style and dedication to public service as key reasons for his nomination.
The award will be formally presented at the NUJ’s 70th Anniversary Awards and Gala Night, scheduled to hold on Saturday, 21st June 2025, in Abuja.
Commenting on the development, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, described the recognition as “well-deserved” and a reflection of the Governor’s open-door policy and consistent engagement with the media as a partner in progress.
“The Kano State Government deeply appreciates this honour from the Nigerian Union of Journalists. It reaffirms our administration’s belief that a free and vibrant press is an essential pillar of democracy,” the Commissioner stated.
He further added that the Ministry and the entire government of Kano State remain committed to upholding transparency, accountability, and freedom of expression in line with global democratic standards.
On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, we congratulate His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on this milestone and thank the NUJ for acknowledging his unwavering support for the media and its practitioners.
