CELOHA Nigeria, in partnership with WAN Network, has called on the Federal Government, Borno State Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to secure the safe and immediate release of schoolchildren abducted in Borno State.
The organisations, in a statement issued on Friday, expressed concern over the continued captivity of the children, warning that their prolonged stay in the hands of armed groups exposes them to further risks.
They said the situation raises serious concerns about the children’s safety, education, dignity and fundamental rights.
CELOHA Nigeria and WAN Network urged the government to make the safe rescue and return of the children an urgent national priority, using all lawful and appropriate measures to protect their lives and wellbeing.
The organisations also called on political leaders and government institutions to ensure that preparations for the 2027 general elections do not overshadow the security and humanitarian needs of the affected children and their families.
They further appealed for regular and transparent communication with the affected families and the public on efforts being made to secure the children’s release.
However, the groups cautioned that such communication should not include operational details that could jeopardise ongoing rescue efforts.
“ The children deserve to return home. Their safety must come first. Their future cannot wait,” the organisations said.
CELOHA Nigeria and WAN Network reaffirmed their commitment to advocating for the protection and rights of children in Nigeria, particularly against abduction, violence, exploitation and other forms of abuse.
