ICPC Lauds Media Support In Anti-graft Fight

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission(ICPC) has commended the Nigerian media for their support to the commission over the years.
The Chairman of the commission,Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu,made the commendation at a Breakfast Meeting with Editors under the aegis of the Nigerian Guild of Editors(NGE) at Marriott Hotel, Lagos, on Thursday.
“Your support for the ICPC in delivering on its constitutional mandate including its robust activities and initiatives for fighting corrupt practices and other related offences is really commendable,” Aliyu said.
He said the Breakfast Meeting was organized by the commission to strengthen the relationship between the anti-graft body and the media in the fight against corruption in the country.
He lauded the efforts of the media at enlightening Nigerians on the problem of corruption in the country, which according to him, had been helpful to the commission.
The ICPC Boss said he was personally filled with gratitude that the media had continued to effectively boost the commission’s anti corruption public communication efforts.
He said the investigative reports and analysis among other materials published by the media had been helpful in exposing corrupt practices in the country.
“Because there were a lot of stories which you have published and which have helped us in our investigations,”he said.
The chairman added that most of the published stories had made the commission to discover some massive challenges facing its operations.
In his opening remarks,a staunch member of the NGE,Prof.Sule Ya’u Sule,said the meeting was part of the ICPC Chairman’s engagement with selected Editors from parts of the country to share his vision and seek their support.
“Editors, before you is the Chairman of the ICPC,Dr Musa Adamu Aliyu SAN.He has a vision which he intends to unveil and he wants you to help him to achieve his vision,”Prof.Sule added.
In his closing address, President of the NGE,Mr Eze Anaba, said by organizing the meeting,the commission showed that it really wants to fight corruption in partnership with the Nigerian Editors.
Anaba expressed the readiness of the NGE to work with the commission in its fight against corruption towards a better Nigeria.
