The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has left out the names of Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and his running mate, Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso, from its published list of governorship candidates in Kano State.
The omission followed INEC’s release of candidates’ names for various elective positions on Sunday, with the New Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidates missing from the Kano governorship list.
Reacting to the development, the NDC said the omission of its governorship candidate’s name was due to an error and expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved.
Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofarmata, Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya Caucus and the party’s House of Representatives candidate in Kano, said Gwarzo registered within the stipulated period and that the party submitted his details through INEC’s online portal.
Kofarmata, in a statement, said the party had been informed that an error occurred during the entry of the candidate’s details, adding that efforts were underway to correct the situation.
He urged party supporters to remain calm and continue their activities despite the development.
However, INEC had yet to issue an official statement explaining why the names of the NDC governorship candidate and his running mate were absent from the list as of the time of filing this report.
