The Deputy Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa State, Ambassador Nuraddeen Suleiman Jidawa, has thrown his weight behind the party’s 2027 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over his pledge to restore petrol subsidy if elected president.
Jidawa said the proposal had become necessary in view of the mounting economic hardship confronting Nigerians, particularly the rising cost of transportation, food and other essential commodities.
The ADC chieftain, who spoke while canvassing support for the former vice-president, described Atiku as a man of integrity, maturity and unwavering commitment to democratic principles, expressing confidence that he would honour his campaign promises if elected.
“I know Atiku Abubakar very well. He is a man of integrity, maturity and a true democrat. I am confident that he will fulfil the promises he makes to Nigerians,” Jidawa said.
He said Atiku’s proposed approach to fuel subsidy, which he described as a targeted and accountable support mechanism for domestic fuel production, offered a practical response to the economic difficulties facing the country.
According to him, the policy would help cushion the impact of high fuel prices on households and businesses while supporting efforts to strengthen local refining capacity and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on imported petroleum products.
Jidawa argued that the current economic situation required bold and realistic policy choices capable of easing the burden on ordinary Nigerians.
He said the ADC was committed to presenting Nigerians with credible alternatives ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the party’s focus was on economic recovery, institutional reform and improved living conditions.
“This is about rescuing the country from economic hardship, rebuilding our institutions and restoring hope to Nigerians,” he said.
The Jigawa ADC deputy chairman urged voters in the state and across the country to support Atiku and other ADC candidates at the 2027 polls, saying the election represented an opportunity for Nigerians to choose leaders capable of addressing the country’s economic and governance challenges.
Jidawa called on ADC supporters to remain united and mobilise voters at the grassroots ahead of the elections, saying the party would continue to take its message of economic recovery, accountability and democratic governance to Nigerians.
