JIRS Generates Over N8 Billion in Four Months, Assures Implementation of Tax-for-Service Agreement

From Mika’il Tsoho, Dutse

The Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service (JIRS) has announced that it generated over N8 billion in revenue within the first quarter of 2025.

The Chairman of the Board, Dr. Nasir Sabo, disclosed this while addressing journalists shortly after delivering a speech at a two-day town hall meeting and capacity-building workshop for civil society organisations (CSOs) and market groups.

The event was organised by Prime Initiative and the Tax Justice Platform, with support from Christian Aid and CISLAC.

Dr. Sabo attributed the revenue success to the strategic support received from Governor Umar Namadi, as well as the implementation of innovative policies—particularly the digitalisation of the state’s tax and revenue collection systems.

“In April 2025 alone, we generated over N3 billion. This achievement is largely due to the enabling environment provided by the Governor and our adoption of new technologies and strategies,” he said.

He assured the public that the funds would be utilised to improve services for the people of Jigawa State.

Dr. Sabo also commended the organisers of the workshop and urged the general public to support the board in its quest for sustainable development.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Prime Initiative, Comrade Muhammad Abdu Dutse, described the engagement as a platform for stakeholders to share experiences, identify challenges, and develop solutions aimed at ensuring fairness and justice in tax collection.

Comrade Dutse explained that the workshop was designed to strengthen the capacity of CSOs and market groups to effectively engage with tax authorities on the implementation of tax-for-service agreements.

He said it would also enhance public understanding of tax policies and their role in promoting accountability and improved service delivery.

He added that the workshop aims to foster dialogue and build trust between tax authorities, civil society, market groups, and taxpayers to promote greater transparency and efficiency in tax collection and public service provision.
