KACRAN Urges NEDC to Sustain Efforts in Livestock, Regional Development

From Sani Gazas Chinade, Damaturu

The Kulen Allah Cattle Rearers Association of Nigeria (KACRAN) has called on the North East Development Commission (NEDC) to sustain its commendable efforts in promoting the livestock sector and advancing regional development.

In a press statement, KACRAN’s National President, Khalid Muhammad Bello, highlighted the association’s mission to foster peace and unity by reducing conflicts between herders and farmers. He emphasized the need for government policies to include pastoralists, who often face barriers in accessing social services due to their nomadic lifestyle.

The association commended the NEDC for its significant contributions to the region and outlined key areas of impact:

1.Inclusive Governance: The NEDC has demonstrated a commitment to equitable development across all communities, regardless of state, tribe, religion, or political affiliation. The leadership of Managing Director Alhaji Mohammed Alkali and Director of Finance and Administration Dr. Garba Iliya has been instrumental in achieving this.

2.Peace and Security: By collaborating with local governments and security agencies, the NEDC has played a vital role in restoring stability to the region, a critical foundation for development.

3.Exemplary Performance: The NEDC is recognized as one of the most effective development commissions in Nigeria. Its success has inspired calls for similar commissions in other regions.

4.Disaster Response and Infrastructure: The Commission has been proactive in addressing crises, such as the Maiduguri water flood, and in rebuilding schools, hospitals, roads, and bridges to enhance the welfare of residents.

5.Community Support: Through initiatives such as the distribution of palliative aid to both Christian and Muslim communities during festive periods, the NEDC has demonstrated its commitment to equitable support for all citizens.

6.Support for Pastoralists: The establishment of water points and the distribution of palliatives to pastoralists reflect the Commission’s inclusive approach to development.

KACRAN appealed to members of the National Assembly to ensure adequate financial support for the NEDC, enabling it to sustain its efforts and address emerging security challenges in the region.

In conclusion, the association urged newly established development commissions across Nigeria to adopt the NEDC as a model for effective governance and regional development.
