Kaduna Bye-Elections: APC, ADC Clash Over Rigging Allegations
From Abdullahi Alhassan, Kaduna
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani of plotting to rig Saturday’s bye-elections in Chikun, Kajuru, and Sabon Gari LGAs.
ADC National Vice Chairman (North), Hon. Jafaru Sani, alleged at a press briefing in Kaduna that Governor Sani has Directed 23 LG Chairmen to contribute N30 million each and received N1.5 billion from APC leadership to fund rigging.
“They have Hired 4,000 thugs and plans to deploy security agents to intimidate voters” he added.
Sani, flanked by former Governor Nasir El-Rufai and ADC executives, claimed the APC is “desperate” due to ADC’s popularity. He urged security agencies to remain neutral.
Responding to the allegations, Kaduna State Commissioners for Information (Ahmed Maiyaki) and Local Government Affairs (Sadiq Mamman Lagos) dismissed the claims as baseless and defamatory.
Maiyaki stated that the ADC is disturbed after facing voter rejection, citing hostile receptions during campaigns.
“Governor Sani, a “democrat,” would never rig elections and will pursue legal action against the allegations”
“Funding claims are “blatant lies”; APC uses legitimate means for campaigns.” Maiyaki stated.
He further criticized El-Rufai’s tenure as “tyrannical” and claimed the ADC coalition is “frustrated” by impending defeat.
Voters were urged to disregard the allegations and support APC candidates.
