Kano CDC Assures Wider Sensitization as V-PeSDI Calls for Support to Vulnerable People
Following reports of recent disease outbreaks in some states and an advisory issued to Kano State by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the Vulnerable People Support and Development Initiative (V-PeSDI) paid an advocacy visit to the Director General of the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC), Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Abbas, to push for stronger interventions to curb disease threats in the state.
The Coordinator of V-PeSDI, Hannatu Suleiman Abba, explained that the organization’s core mandate includes engaging relevant stakeholders whenever challenges affecting vulnerable groups emerge.
She emphasized that during every disease outbreak in the country, vulnerable populations remain the most at risk due to factors beyond their control.
V-PeSDI commended the Kano State Government for establishing the KNCDC and called for deeper collaboration with local NGOs to enhance the flow of vital information at the grassroots.
In his response, Assoc. Prof. Muhammad Abbas highlighted how the state governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf is transforming the health sector narratives in Kano.
He noted that the administration’s swift interventions, particularly in vaccines and routine immunization programmes, are worthy of praise.
He further disclosed that Kano State had already taken proactive steps to combat diseases such as Lassa fever and meningitis, even before outbreaks occurred elsewhere.
Assoc. Prof. Abbas thanked V-PeSDI for its timely advocacy and pledged to work closely with the organization to intensify public awareness and sensitization efforts.
