Kano Cow Milk Dealers Urge Completion Of Milk Collection Centres

The Amalgamated Cow Milk Dealers Association of Kano State, has asked the State Agro-Pastoral Development Project(KSADP) to complete the construction of Milk Collection Centres to facilitate the storage of milk across the state.

The Chairman of the association, Muhammad Lawan Alaramma,made the call during an interview with newsmen at the Kofar Wambai Milk Market,Kano,on Wednesday.

Alaramma said the completion of the centres if complicated, would boost the storage of milk and the business of the commodity across all selling points in the state.

He also called for the completion of the Coldroom being constructed by KSADP for the market,and its equipping with solar-powered generating sets,to preserve the freshness of the milk kept at market.

He disclosed that more than two million liters of milk are being sold at the market, daily, adding that the commodity is sourced from various parts of the country, including Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi and Plateau states.

Similarly, the chairman said, about N200 million worth of transactions are being recorded from the sales of milk at the market.

He also revealed that the union has more than 20,000 members involved in the sales of milk across the state,”most of them young men and women.”

He commended the Islamic Development Bank(IDB) for roofing, providing interlocking as well as a Coldroom for the market, through the KSADP.

Before the provision of the roofing and the interlocking,he said, the market was virtually waterlogged and inaccessible during the rainy season.

Prime Time News reports that the KSADP is presently constructing and equipping Milk Collection Centres across milk producing communities in the state.

Each of the centres is quipped with 550-litre milk storage tank and its accessories – solar-powered borehole, toilet facilities,solar lighting and an office.
