The Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, has urged aspiring journalists in the state to uphold ethical standards and pursue developmental journalism for effective professional service delivery.

Garba made this call today while receiving a delegation from the Kano Youth Journalists Forum at the State Government House, Kano. He emphasized the importance of adhering to journalistic ethics to maintain credibility and trust among the public.

“As upcoming journalists, you have a responsibility to uphold the highest ethical standards of the profession. Your work should be guided by accuracy, objectivity, and a commitment to truth-telling.” Garba stated.

The CPS also encouraged young journalists to embrace developmental journalism, which focuses on highlighting and promoting positive social and economic change. He noted that the Kano State government has revived an institution dedicated to fostering developmental journalism.

“Shift the narrative of your reporting from local reporting to developmental journalism as it is the trend, and Kano State is leading the way in promoting it” Garba advised.

In addition to upholding ethics and pursuing developmental journalism, Garba advised aspiring journalists to pursue higher education qualifications to enhance their professional competence and secure their future in the profession.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation, Malam Musa Zangina Adam, explained the purpose of their visit. He stated that the Forum sought to familiarize themselves with the CPS and register their presence as a platform for young journalists in Kano.

Adam also highlighted the Forum’s primary objective of amplifying the activities of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration to the citizens of Kano State and beyond.

The leader presented formal requests to the CPS, seeking support for the Forum’s progress and the development of Kano State. Additionally, they requested an audience with the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.

In response to the requests, Garba expressed appreciation to the Forum for their visit and assured them that their requests would be conveyed to the Deputy Governor. He also pledged to facilitate an audience with the Deputy Governor at the earliest opportunity.

The Kano Youth Journalists Forum comprises young journalists from various media houses, including broadcast and print media. Their commitment to professional development and their dedication to promoting Kano State’s progress are commendable.
