Kano Emirate Council Receives 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign Delegation

The Kano Emirate Council on Saturday hosted the leadership of the 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign, led by Global Peace Ambassador Zubairu Dalhatu Malami, for a high‑level engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration toward peacebuilding and community resilience across Northern Nigeria.

The meeting, held at the residence of the Magajin Garin Kano, Muhammad Nasiru Wada, was convened to brief the Emirate on the objectives of the campaign and explore areas of partnership with traditional institutions in addressing insecurity, youth vulnerability, and rising social tensions across the region.

During the visit, the Peace Campaign delegation presented the campaign’s strategic focus, which includes mass awareness, community mobilization, youth and women empowerment, and the deployment of a technology‑enabled Early Warning and Early Response (EWER) system in partnership with the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).

The Magajin Garin Kano, speaking on behalf of His Highness, Sarkin Kano, commended the initiative and emphasized the critical role of traditional institutions in promoting peace and stability. He highlighted the need for interventions that address the root causes of insecurity, including rural‑urban migration, unemployment, and lack of opportunities for young people.

He further advised the campaign to maintain neutrality ahead of the 2027 political season and requested the team to provide a clear outline of the specific support required from the Emirate Council.

The Kano Emirate Council expressed its readiness to support the campaign’s grassroots engagement and collaborate on strengthening a unified early warning and early response mechanism.

Ambassador Zubairu Dalhatu Malami expressed deep appreciation to the Emirate Council for the warm reception and reaffirmed the campaign’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions, government agencies, and development partners to advance peace and social cohesion across Northern Nigeria.

The visit concluded with a tour of the Muhammad Inuwa Wada ICT Center, established by the Magajin Garin Kano, followed by a group photograph.

The 2026 Northern Nigeria Peace Campaign is a multi‑stakeholder initiative implemented in partnership with the Africa Peace Reform Initiative (APRI), Zamkah Technologies Limited, IPCR, AUDA‑NEPAD Nigeria, the Global Peace Chain and Coral Charitable Foundation.
