Kano State Deputy Governor Alhaji Murtala Sule Garo, on behalf of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, received the Director-General of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 Presidential Campaign Council, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar, and his entourage in Kano on Sunday
Garo welcomed Yari and his delegation to the state, which visited the residence of Qaribullahi Sheikh Sheikh Nasiru Kabara, leader of the Qadiriyya movement in Kano assuring them of the Kano State Government’s support and cooperation with the campaign committee.
He said the state government was aware of President Tinubu’s programmes and policies in areas including health, education, the economy, security and agriculture, while acknowledging the challenges facing governments around the world.
The Deputy Governor said the government was working to achieve lasting security and called on citizens to continue praying and supporting efforts toward peace, unity and harmony.
Garo described Kano’s inclusion among the early states visited by the campaign team as a sign of respect for the state, assuring the delegation of the support of Kano residents.
He said the engagement with Ulama and other knowledgeable and respected stakeholders would help strengthen efforts toward national development and economic stability.
Speaking during the visit, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari Abubakar said the delegation was in Kano to seek prayers and support from Ulama and prominent stakeholders as part of its nationwide engagement ahead of the 2027 election.
According to him, the council had previously engaged members of the Tijaniyya in Bauchi, Izala in Jos and Kaduna, as well as the Qadiriyya, as part of its consultations.
Yari said the response from the various groups had been encouraging, adding that the campaign would continue with similar engagements across the country.
He explained that the decision to begin the campaign’s engagements with Ulamas was informed by his belief that religious leaders have strong influence among their followers, particularly through regular prayers and Friday congregational activities.
He said the campaign would not rely solely on rallies, but would also organise town hall meetings where issues affecting the people would be discussed and feedback obtained.
Also speaking, leader of the Qadriya Movement in Kano State, Karibullah Sheikh Nasiru Sheikh Kabara, appreciated the delegation for the visit and for choosing Kano as one of the states for the flag-off.
Sheikh Kabara said the Deputy Governor was not a stranger to the Qadriya family, describing him as a welcome guest and assuring the delegation that their doors remained open for collaboration towards the development of the country.
He said such collaboration could contribute to economic prosperity, security, healthcare, agriculture and other sectors of development.
Among the personalities who attended were former Kano State Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Borno State Governor Senator Ali Modu Sheriff; former Kebbi State Governor Senator Adamu Aliero; former Katsina State Governor Alhaji Aminu Bello Masari; James Abiodun Faleke; and APC National Secretary, Alhaji Bashir Ajibola Basiru, among others.
