Kano Ministry Of Education, UNICEF Partners Train Principals,ICT Teachers On Digital Literacy,School Connectivity

The Kano State Ministry of Education, in collaboration with UNICEF, Focus Teens Foundation, and IHS, has organized a Digital Literacy Training and School Connectivity Program for principals and ICT teachers from 100 selected schools across the state.

Director Public Enlightenment of the ministry, said the training, held at the SBMC Hall of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), brought together 200 participants, comprising one principal and one ICT teacher from each of the selected schools.
Yakasai said the programme aims to support the global and national goal of mapping school connectivity by 2030, connecting all schools to reliable internet access, and ensuring that students and teachers are not left behind in the digital age. It also seeks to monitor school connectivity and the adoption of digital literacy initiatives in real time.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Kano State Ministry of Education, Alhaji Baahir Baffa Muhammad, represented by the Director of Schools, Comrade Sagir Umar Danbare, emphasized the importance of digital literacy and internet connectivity in enhancing teaching and learning outcomes.
Muhammad commended the development partners for supporting the state’s efforts to modernize education through technology.
He emphasized that the program reflects the commitment of the Kano State Government and its partners to advancing digital education and ensuring that every learner has access to the opportunities provided by modern technology.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB), Honourable Rabiu Sale Gwarzo, represented by the Deputy Director of Schools, Mallam Isa Datti, highlighted the significance of equipping school leaders and ICT teachers with the necessary skills to drive digital transformation in schools.
The participants received training on digital literacy, connectivity assessment, and the use of technology to improve educational delivery and data-driven decision-making in schools.
As part of efforts to strengthen internet access in schools, each of the 100 participating schools received an internet router with a one-year internet subscription at the end of the training. The initiative is expected to enhance connectivity and facilitate the integration of digital learning resources into classroom instruction.
Delivering the closing remarks, the Director of Development Partners at the Ministry of Education, Dr. Lukman Tajo Suraj, expressed appreciation to UNICEF, Focus Teens Foundation, and IHS for their continued support.
Suraj encouraged participants to apply the knowledge gained during the training to strengthen digital learning and connectivity initiatives in their respective schools.
