The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of two serving members of the Kano State House of Assembly, describing the incident as a tragic loss to the state.
In a condolence message issued on behalf of its members, the Union extended sympathies to the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf; the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Isma’il Falgore; and the entire people of Kano State over the sad development.
The statement was jointly signed by the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, and the Acting Secretary of the Council, Hauwa Suleiman Zaharaddeen.
According to the message, the Union commiserated with the government and people of Kano State, particularly the families of the deceased lawmakers, and prayed for strength and comfort for them during the period of mourning.
The statement pray that Allah (SWT) grants the bereaved families the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss and admits the souls of the deceased into Jannatul Firdaus.
Speaking on the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Majority Leader of the Kano State House of Assembly and member representing Dala Local Government, Alhaji Lawan Hussain Chediyar ’Yan Gurasa, explained that the lawmaker representing Ungogo Constituency, Hon. Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo, had entered a restroom to perform ablution ahead of prayers when a sound was heard indicating he had collapsed. He was immediately rushed to Kano Medical Centre (KMC) where medical personnel later confirmed his death.
Further reports indicated that the death of Hon. Aminu Sa’ad Ungogo deeply affected his colleague representing Kano Municipal Local Government, Hon. Aliyu Sarki Daneji, who reportedly fell into severe emotional distress that contributed to his own death. Both lawmakers passed away on the same day, Wednesday, December 24.
The funeral prayer for the late lawmaker representing Ungogo was held on Wednesday, while that of his Kano Municipal counterpart took place on Thursday morning at emir’s palace.
