Kano Police Crackdown on Illegal Forex Operators, Arrest 17 Suspects

In a bid to stabilize the foreign exchange market, the Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with the Department of State Service (DSS), has arrested 17 suspected forex hawkers for illegal operation of Bureau De Change.

This was contained in a press statement released to news by the PPRO of the Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on Tuesday.

The raid, which took place on May 7, 2024, at Wappa Bureau De Change in Fagge Local Government Area, Kano, resulted in the recovery of 68,000 CFA and 30 Indian Rupees. Further investigation revealed that the suspects were operating under an unlicensed Bureau De Change association.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, commended the combined operatives for their commitment and cooperation, emphasizing that illegal financial activities will not be tolerated. He advised genuine Bureau De Change operators to obtain necessary licenses and operate within the law.

The police urge individuals and business operators in the financial sector to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through designated emergency contact numbers and online platforms.
